At Pool CE Primary School, the daily act of Collective Worship is highly valued and every effort is made to ensure that all children and staff take part in a high quality and meaningful experience, offering a spiritual encounter within an inclusive Christian and educational context.

We believe at Pool that Collective Worship both supports and strengthens what we aim to do in every aspect of school life. Our caring ethos, and the value which we place on the development of the whole child; spiritually, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually, is reflected in our worship.

The daily act of Christian Collective Worship offers important opportunities to strengthen our sense of community, belonging and inclusiveness, and to reinforce the respect and care we have for each other.

Each year we hold a Harvest, Christmas and Easter Service, and a Leavers Service at the end of the academic year in St Wilfrid's Church. These services are led by the children with input from the local church.

Pupil-led worship - 'The Worship Collective'
Pupils in KS1 and KS2 are invited to lead collective worship with responsibilities in various roles, which are taken in whole school worship as well as class-based collective worship:

Welcomer - Inviting others to worship
Acolyte - Operational role; setting out candles, a coloured cloth, the Bible, etc.
Reader - Reading aloud the themed focus for worship and a story or poem, if included
Intercessor - Prayer leader
Choir - Singing at the front and leading actions where appropriate
Leader - Leads the liturgical 'call and response', e.g. 'The Lord be with you...'
Blesser - Leads the blessing at the end of worship

We use 'Flippin' Praise' with 'The Worship Collective' who lead whole school worship at least twice per half term. This resource keeps the structure simple and easy for the children to follow, and enables them to be in control of the focus.

As well as our own staff and pupils leading Collective Worship, we also enjoy a regular visits from the clergy of Pool St Wilfrid's Church and from Pool Methodist Church.

Withdrawal from Collective Worship
We recognise parents' legal right to withdraw their child from Collective Worship, if they wish. We would ask any parent considering withdrawing their child from daily worship to contact the Headteacher, Mrs Fox, to discuss any concerns or anxieties about the policy, provision and practice of religious education. Any children who are withdrawn will be supervised by an adult, however this may not be their own teacher or TA. Staff may also withdraw from worship.
