Through perseverance, respect, compassion, and wisdom, pupils learn to dream big and become the best versions of themselves. These clubs also strengthen our commitment to building a caring community where everyone is loved and included.

By participating in these activities, pupils develop skills and friendships that enrich their school life and personal growth, preparing them to live well together within our diverse, wider community.

Forest School at Pool CE Primary School

At Pool CE Primary School, we are proud to offer our pupils the enriching experience of Forest School, set in our beautiful and tranquil Peace Garden. As a welcoming and inclusive Church of England voluntary controlled primary school, we believe that outdoor learning plays a vital role in helping children believe in themselves and achieve their full potential. Our Forest School sessions are designed to nurture perseverance, respect, compassion, and wisdom, fully aligned with our school vision and values.

What is Forest School?

Forest School is a child-led, outdoor learning approach that encourages curiosity, resilience, and practical skills through hands-on activities in a natural setting. Our sessions are led by the experienced team at The Log Circle, who bring enthusiasm and expertise to every session, ensuring a safe and inspiring environment for all pupils.

Our Forest School Features

Our Peace Garden provides the perfect backdrop for a wide range of activities that promote physical, creative, and social development:

  • Child-led exploration: Pupils choose activities that interest them, fostering independence and confidence.
  • Fire and cooking: Children learn essential safety skills and enjoy cooking outdoors, developing teamwork and responsibility.
  • Drills (palm and hand): These traditional skills help improve coordination and concentration.
  • Use of tools: Pupils safely use saws and other tools under close supervision to build practical skills and respect for equipment.
  • Forest School names: Each child receives a unique forest school name, helping to create a sense of belonging and identity.
  • Wood cookie necklaces: Children craft personalised wooden tokens as keepsakes of their Forest School journey.
  • Physical play equipment: Access to swings, balancing ropes, slack lines, climbing ropes, and a mud kitchen encourages healthy physical activity and imaginative play.
  • Craft activities: Pupils engage in natural crafts, fostering creativity and connection with nature.
  • Circle time: Each session begins and ends with circle time, promoting reflection, communication, and community spirit.

How Forest School Reflects Our Vision and Values

Forest School at Pool CE Primary is much more than outdoor play. It is a vital part of how we help pupils believe in their capabilities and achieve by:

  • Encouraging perseverance as children try new challenges, such as mastering balancing ropes or learning to use tools safely.
  • Teaching respect for the environment, for themselves, and for each other through shared responsibilities and group activities.
  • Developing compassion by working collaboratively and supporting peers in a nurturing outdoor setting.
  • Building wisdom through experiential learning that connects children with the natural world and life skills.
