Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths

All the classes across school enjoyed a fantastic week of STEM activities this week, with lots of interesting visitors and opportunities for exciting practical work. A big thank you to Mr Spencer for loaning the Van Der Graaf generator to us - the children really enjoyed seeing Mrs Doughty's hair stand on end! Another huge thank you to Mrs Hadfield for organising and running the amazing workshops in the hall, including a 3D printer, laparoscopy equipment and a giant knee! We also had a visit from the STEM team at Leeds University, who engaged classes in a fascinating 'Particle Zoo' workshop, looking at all the fascinating research that is being done at CERN. We feel sure we have some budding scientists and engineers at Pool, and hope we have inspired all our children to feel excited about these important subjects!

STEM Week - May 2018

Science - Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an amazing Space Day last Friday (4.11.16)

Science News 2.3.16

Last Friday, some children from Years 2,3 and 4 took part in the Ashfield Primary Space and Science Fair. The children had a wonderful time; they shared their science activities involving 'Ice' and 'Electricity' with all other schools.

We took part in a 'solar system'art activity, organised by Leeds University and found out about Tim Peake's journey on the International Space Station.

Engineering News 2.3.16

Last Wednesday, Year 5 were very lucky and enjoyed a workshop with the Engineering Department from Leeds University. We looked carefully at defense and flood barriers manufactured by Hesco. The children even created their own structures in a competition.

Year 5 also had chance to build a gigantic tetrahedron from wooden sticks and elastic bands. They all worked so well together and made many discoveries.
