Hope you all had a lovely half term.  We are still focusing on division this week and the written methods; numberline, numberline with remainders and the formal written method (also known as the bus stop method). We will continue to do this and look into word problems and again focus on the relationship between multiplication and division.

We have been working on finding an estimate of a calcualtion before adding/subtracting to find the actual. We have been doing our rounding numbers to help us do this. We have learnt that if the digit is 1, 2, 3, 4 you round down but if it is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 you round up.

We will be going on to solve word problems with the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) which will continue for the following weeks.

We have worked really hard on our fractions this half term. To keep practising them please access mathletics over the holidays. Another website we like to use in class for subjects as well as maths that the children really enjoy is

I hope you all have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the holidays.

For the next couple of weeks we are focusing on fractions. We are revising finding 1/4 1/2 3/4 and 1/3 of a shape and number. We will then be moving onto equivalent fractions. Please use the mathletics website to practise these skills.

This week we will be focusing on measures again, this time with weight. We will be practising estimating and weighing, reading scales and baking some biscuits to show off our weighing skills (making sure we are using the correct amounts!).

Spring One

We have been revisiting our understanding of adding and subtracting 2 ad 3 digit numbers using the column method (we will be revisiting this throughout the half term). We are currently looking at right angles and working out whether certain shapes have angles that are right angles, or angles bigger/smaller than a right angle.

New maths facts were given out on Friday- they are to be tested on these facts on 24/01/17

Autumn Two Week Four

Over the past couple of weeks we have been practicing our multiplication and division skills with; 2, 3, 4 and 8. The maths facts have been sent home today related to this. Please practice at home and we will be testing them on 9/12/16.

The Family Maths Toolkit is full of ideas to help parents, families and children aged 13 and under enjoy everyday maths activities together.

Parents and families can help children's confidence by being positive about maths, praising effort rather than talent, and highlighting maths in everyday life.

The maths facts couldn't print out today so I will send them out on Monday. If your child didn't bring their book in today please remind them do bring it with them on Monday. Thank you.

Autumn Two Week Five

This week we are continuing to look at time and we will be looking at 1 minute intervals i.e. 7 minutes past 6.  If you could continue to practice this at home making the note of the time for example when having breakfast, dinner, bed time etc that would be greatly appreciated.

The maths facts will be handed out on Monday- please practice 'Guinea Pig' at home. We will be testing on 14.10.16

Autumn Two Week Four

This week we have practiced the decomposition method with 2 digit and 3 digit numbers. We have persevered and tried very hard learning this new method! Although we won't be continuing this in lessons next week please keep practicing at home and logging onto mathletics.

We will be looking at time next week so please have a practice before next week if you can. Looking closely at the 5 minute intervals; 5, 10, 15 minutes past etc.

Autumn Two Week Three

This week we have focused on subtraction and have learnt the column method. We will be continuing with this into next week and learn the decomposition method. Please see our calculation policy to find the method we will be using.

Autumn One Week Two

This week we have been learning about addition. We have learnt a new method; column addition. We have also been learning the carrying method with the column addition. We have tried very hard with this new tricky method!
